Daihatsu engine trouble codes HD-E

Daihatsu cars are equipped with Daihatsu MPi / EFi engine management systems that control the primary circuit of the ignition system, fuel injection, turbocharging pressure (where it is available) and engine idling from a single control unit. Daihatsu EFI control system

If a malfunction occurs, the “CHECK ENGINE” lamp lights up on the instrument panel (Fig. 1) This lamp warns of a malfunction and can indicate a malfunction code, except codes 1, 10 and 11.

When starting the self-test system, the “CHECK ENGINE” lamp flashes. If there is no malfunction in the system, the lamp flashes with a pause of 4. 5 seconds and the duration of the flashing is 0. 5 seconds. If a malfunction is detected in the system, for example, with code 2, the “CHECK ENGINE” lamp will blink twice and after 4. 5 sec. the sequence of code flashes will be repeated, etc. If more than one malfunction is detected in the system, for example, with codes 2 and 3 (Fig. 2), then the code with a lower number - 2 will be displayed first, then after an interval of 4. 5 sec. - code 3

Preparation for testing

The battery is charged to a voltage of at least 11V

Throttle valve is fully closed.

Turn on the ignition and verify that the "CHECK ENGINE" lamp is lit.

Start the engine.

If the lamp "CHECK ENGINE" went out, and the system is not malfunctioning.

If the lamp "CHECK ENGINE" continues to burn, there is a malfunction in the system, test it.

Remove the protective cover from the self-test connector located in the engine compartment near the left wing above the gearbox.

Cross over with a suitable jumper contacts "Test" and "GROUND" self-test connector

Note. Make sure that exactly the above contacts are bridged.

Turn on the ignition.

If there is a malfunction in the system, read its code indicated by the lamp "CHECK ENGINE", counting the number of flashes in the code message.

Compare the received code with the table of fault codes.

Remove jumper.

Hide the self-test connector in its protective case.

After troubleshooting, clear the ECU DTCs memory.

Switch off the ignition.

Disconnect the battery negative cable for at least 10 seconds.

Or you can remove the fuse (fig. 4) located on the relay board for at least 10 seconds.

Reconnect the negative battery lead.

You must drive a car and make sure that the old malfunctions have been fixed and that new ones have not appeared.

Error code table

Code Location Fault

1 malfunction missing

2 speed signal from the ignition system

3 pressure sensor

4 coolant temperature sensor

5 oxygen sensor / fuel mix

7 throttle position sensor

8 air temperature sensor

9 vehicle speed sensor

10 signal from the starter

11 valve regulator X. H., gear selector switch - not neutral, air conditioner switch

Note: Codes 2 and 3 of this table are different from the codes of the table given in the manual on the HD engine, so I’ll quote the table from the manual, since it is most likely the most correct one:

Code Location Fault

1 malfunction missing

2 pressure sensor

3 ignition signal

4 coolant temperature sensor

5 oxygen sensor / fuel mix

7 throttle position sensor

8 air temperature sensor

9 vehicle speed sensor
